Bakeshop

This little Bakeshop is a small-business bakery located in Arlington, VA. The majority of their baked goods are non-vegan but they do offer a small variety of vegan cupcakes and other goodies such as peanut butter cookies and peanut butter-chocolate rice krispy treats.

I have to say that their cupcakes and other vegan goodies are far superior to Sticky Finger's. Sticky Fingers still rule in the vegan brunch department but Bakeshop's cupcakes are much more moist with a fluffy lighter topping.

One criticism I have is that they used to have chocolate chips IN their vegan cupcakes. They stopped this a few months ago! The chocolate chips were so tasty and really made an OK cupcake so much better. When I asked WHY they would remove the chocolate chips from the cake part of the cupcake, the girl at the counter told me that it would discolor and not look right? First of all, I noticed NO discoloring and second, WHO CARES!? I requested they bring it back but so far no go. Coincidentally, it's her boyfriend that is the vegan baker for Bakeshop. Does he have a brother? Hmmm....

ANYWAY...

Recently, Compassion Over Killing hosted a vegan waffle bar/brunch but something happened to their waffle maker and so it was forced to end early. I had just gotten there when it broke. Ah well. If anything, it shows that Bakeshop is experimenting with the vegan market and potentially adding more vegan items to their menu. They now have at least one or two vegan offerings daily. Normally one flavor of cupcake and a peanut butter cookie. If you like peanut butter, you would find Bakeshop's peanut butter cookies very palatable! These cookie are delicious and seem to melt in your mouth. Sometimes the cookies are even half dipped in chocolate :) My favorite is their peanut butter-chocolate rice krispy treat, which unfortunately, they don't seem to offer frequently.

Vegan day at Bakeshop. ALL of their offerings were vegan that day.

Vegan waffle bar toppings during 'Vegan Day' at the Bakeshop. Hoping they host another one.

Just got these today: Read and green velvet cake with 'egg'nog frosting

Variety of cupcakes my boss told me to pick up for coworkers: All chocolate cake with variety of frosting (cookies and creme, chocolate, vanilla). Oh and red velvet too. Everyone LOVED them. Said there was no taste difference. I told them that the only major elimination/substitution is egg and you don't eat the egg in a 'regular' cupcake for the flavor. Egg-cakes...mmmm.
